Mary Lena Ogle Hutsell, age 77, of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, passed away March 18, 2014. Mary has joined Jesus "In the Garden". Mary loved working in her flower gardens and earned the Beautification Award for Sevier County in 2004, but she always gave God all the credit for her beautiful flowers, especially her roses. She loved being with her family and enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Panama City, FL., the Autumn camping trips to Fall Creek Falls, but most of all loved visiting Cherokee Orchard and Elkmont, where her parents first met. She received her nursing certificate in 1970 and worked at Epperson Hospital in Athens, TN. She also worked at Sevier County Hospital and for Dr. Lovett and Dr. Maughon in Gatlinburg, TN. Mary retired as secretary from the City of Gatlinburg's Mass Transit Department. Mary was a very big fan of James Rogers and so enjoyed his uplifting shows at the Music Mansion and Dollywood. In 2007, Mary began writing her memoirs of life and gave account of her sweet childhood memories of her beloved Great Smoky Mountains, including playing in the old apple barn at Cherokee Orchard. Mary was Queen of Armed Forces Day Parade in Beckley, WV, in 1955. After attending 18 schools in 12 years due to her father's job in construction, her senior annual picture included the caption, "She always greets you with a smile." During her battle with cancer, her nurses told her to never stop smiling. Mary attended both Roaring Fork Baptist Church and The Church of Christ in Gatlinburg.

Survivors: Loving sister and caregiver, Frances Anne "Pat" Ogle; three children, Robert Stephen "Steve" Hutsell (Sherry) of Athens, TN, Mary Diane Townsend (Johnny) of Gatlinburg, TN, and Patricia Caroline "Patti" Butler (Jack) of Gatlinburg, TN. Mary was blessed with 5 grandchildren. Jason Townsend (Misty) of Kodak, TN, Stephanie Hutsell Turner (Wally) of Athens, TN, Leanne Townsend David (Reed) of Eagle, CO, Amanda Butler Combs (David), of Gatlinburg, TN, and Evan Butler (Jourdan) of Goose Creek, SC. Mary was also blessed with 10 great grandchildren, Logan, Caelyn, and Landon Turner of Athens, TN, Brody and Braxton Townsend of Kodak, TN, Annalee and Aspen David of Eagle, CO, and Macy Krein, Bryson Knight and Willow Watson of Gatlinburg, TN.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Wesley Ogle, her brother, Charles Wesley Ogle, Jr., her mother, Mamie Lee Bohanan Ogle, and grandmother, Arminda Huskey Bohanan Ownby.

Mary's special friends were Delmar and Dot Townsend, Arlan and Sylvia Burns, and Rocky David, all of Gatlinburg, TN., Bob and Betty Hutsell of Athens, TN, and Chris and Wayne Gregg of Nashville, TN.

The family will receive friends 4-5:45 PM Thursday with funeral service to follow at 6 PM in Atchley's Smoky Mountain Chapel in Pigeon Forge, TN with Rev. Jeff Ownby and Rev. Kim McCroskey officiating. A private entombment will be held later at Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com) -
