Ruby L. Gaarde. Given by God on September 4, 1921. Given to God on September 1, 2013.
Ruby was born on September 4, 1921 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Dave R. Heffele and Elizabeth R. Parr.
On January 18, 1947, Ruby married the love of her life, Walter W. Gaarde. The two were fortunate to enjoy a long and happy marriage, celebrating their 65th anniversary together in January 2012. Walter preceded her in death on February 12, 2012.
Between 1949 and 1956, Ruby and Walter were blessed with three beautiful daughters. Ruby was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She taught Sunday school at their neighborhood church and enjoyed hobbies like ceramics, stained glass, and sewing. She especially enjoyed using her creativity to make costumes and write poetry. She delighted in finding unique items at rummage sales and collected costume jewelry. Later in life, Ruby found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them to play cards and other games.
In 1957, Ruby used her creative writing talent to enter a contest at the Milwaukee Home Show. Much to her surprise, she won first place in the contest - and the prize was a new house. She and Walter lived in that house for 55 years, until Ruby sold it in 2012 following Walter's passing and moved into an assisted living home, then to Linden Grove nursing home in Menomonee Falls.
Ruby is remembered for her gentle, nurturing spirit. In addition to raising her three daughters, Ruby lovingly cared for her mother for two years prior to her mother's passing. In the later years of her life, Ruby continued to make a positive impact on the lives of those around her. She is remembered for her kindness at the nursing home, where she would cheerfully greet visitors and was compassionate to those around her, especially when she saw someone who looked like they needed a hug.
ruby will be truly missed by those who loved her most-her family. She was the dear mother of three daughters, loving grandmother of six; special great-grandmother of two. She is also survived by other relatives and friends.
A faithful and loving servant of the Lord, Ruby is surely reunited in heaven with many loved ones. Ruby's family takes comfort in the fact that she is celebrating with friends and relatives who went before her, including her parents, husband, sister Darlene Edwards, many aunts and uncles, son-in-law Don, and granddaughter Angel.
Ruby's family and friends will gather to remember her on Friday, September 6, 2013 at noon at Schramka Funeral Home in Menomonee Falls. Internment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, New Berlin. Please feel welcome to visit with the family and share fond memories Friday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
