Michael R. Nickels, 63 of Logansport, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in his home.
Born August 28, 1950 in Peru, he was the son of the late James W. and Dona Elizabeth Sivits Nickels. On June 8, 1973, he was married to Kathy Russell Nickels, who survives.
Michael was a welder. He served two tours of duty in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. From 1969-1970 he served in the 4th Infantry and from 1971-1972 he served in the 101st Airborne division.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 3790 in Logansport and the HCVVO of Kokomo. Michael's hobbies included bowling and playing pool. He also loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Surviving with his wife of 40 years are one daughter, Jennifer L. Nickels of Logansport; one son, Everett (Nick) V. Nickels of Logansport; two brothers, James I. Nickels of Peru and Charles E. Nickels of Logansport; two sisters, Rosemarie Homme and Beverly J. Nickels, both of Logansport; 4 Grandchildren, Scott Turner, Jordan Tidler, Michael Nickels III and Addisyn Nickels.
He was preceded in death by two sons and one brother.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Jeff Strite officiating.
Interment, with full military honors, will follow in the Ever Rest Memorial Park, Logansport.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, March 15 at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, Indiana.
