Ernie Elmer Anderson

Ernest (Ernie) Elmer Anderson, age 91, passed away in Barstow, Washington on January 2, 2014. He was born the son of Emil and Marie (Larsen) Anderson on March 20, 1922 in Colville, Washington. Ernie spent most of his childhood near Boyds, along the Kettle River. While going to school he worked with his father on their ranch where they raised cattle and grew hay. He graduated from Marcus High School in 1941.
In 1945, Ernie married Enes Davis. Together they re-opened the Barstow store. In 1955 Ernie and his wife bought a ranch in Kelly Hill and sold the store one year later to focus on the ranch, which was his dream. In 1967 his ranch was awarded the Stevens County Cattleman of the year. After selling a large portion of the ranch in 1973 he bought a hotel in Colville and also got into real-estate. In 1995, Ernie and Enes moved to the Kettle River.
Ernie was a member of the Kettle River Grange for many years and helped with its remodeling. Ernie also served on the school board for many years, on the Farmers Elevator Board, Washington Cattlemen's Association, and was an A.S.C. Chairperson.
Ernie was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. He also went on many fishing trips with his wife and friends, canning the fish they caught. The most enjoyment in his life was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Enes, sons Gary and Bernie, granddaughter Colleen, and brother Melvin. He is survived by his daughter Janice LaGasse, grandchildren Gary Hanley, Eric Anderson, Hope Anderson, Chris Salo; great grandchildren Brandon Allen, Justin McComb, Sarah Hanley, McKenzie, Kiernan, Everly, Delaney Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews.
