He graduated from Ford High School,Dodge City Community College, Emporia State University with a bachelor's degree in education and the University of Northern Colorado with a Master's Degree in Physical Education. He taught from 1950 to 1989 at Dodge City Junior High/Middle School, where he coached football,basketball and track. In Football, he recorded eight undefeated seasons and an overall career record of 157-56.
In recognition of his dedication, Oct.13,2006 was designated as "Bob Preston Day" by the Dodge City Commission.
He was an active member of First Christian Church; president of the Boot Hill Iris CLub; and a member of Senior Companions, Ford COunty Historical Society, National Wildlife Federation, National Parks and Conservation Assoc. and the Defenders of Wildlife Assoc. Bob was a master teacher in 1987 and was inducted into the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame in 1999.
Throughout his teaching career, Bob received numerous recognitions for being a positive role model, having aq compassionate spirit and helping young people to reach their full potential. Bob enjoyed spending the summers at teh family cabin in Colorado, giving flowers to family members and firends and was a devoted follower of the Lord.
Survivors include one sister, Betty Hullman of St.John,KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Frank, Scott, Bill, Harold and Kenneth Preston; five sisters: Vera Schellhamer, Burnice Shelly, Helen Morris, Katherine Campbell and Eleanor Helfrich.
