Karolena Orr
Karolena L. Orr, 90, of Mount Pleasant died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.
Born Oct. 7, 1915, in Delaware County, she was the daughter of Charles J. and Louise B. Eggiman Orr.
Miss Orr taught in a one–room school house near Mediapolis for one year. She worked for the Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison for 33 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a graduate of Manchester High School and attended college and earned her teaching certificate. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, Empress Rebekah Lodge in Fort Madison and Eden Five at Park Place. Since retiring, she became a quilter and made 30 quilts for her family over the years. Her goal each year was to make 30 pairs of mittens for her church's mitten tree for needy children. She was a baker and enjoyed sharing baked goods with others.
Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Mae Burns of Mount Pleasant and Arlene Seager of Milan, Ill.; one brother, Lloyd Orr of Mount Pleasant; nieces; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant.
The funeral for Miss Orr will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice, First United Methodist Church Memorial Garden and Fort Madison Senior Citizen's Center.
