Mr. Kelly formerly was a bus driver for Interstate Power Co. from October 1942 until his retirement in January 1971.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1906, in Winthrop, Iowa, son of Hugh S. and Hannah (Penny) Kelly. He died at 4:09 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 1995, at The Finley Hospital.
He married Augusta B. Biver on Sept. 7, 1937, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque ; she died on Feb. 11, 1985.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society and was a member and past president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 329. He loved and enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. He enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and euchre.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lee (Barbara) Kirkpatrick, of Dubuque ; a son, John E. Kelly, of Dubuque ; four grandchildren, Mary Jo Kettering, Kathleen (Bruce) Neyens, Karen (John) Rogan and Michael K. (Carolyn) Kirkpatrick, all of Dubuque ; and six great-grandchildren, Shaun Kettering, Jonathan and Carolyn Clausen, Daniel Rogan and Kelly and Krista Kirkpatrick.
He also was preceded in death by a grandson, James L. Kirkpatrick, on June 2, 1986; four sisters; and one brother.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque County.
