About the year 1740, David Allen from Ireland and Susan White from Scotland emigrated to America in the same vessel, were married in this Country, and settled in Chester Co., PA. After some years, they moved with some of their older children, probably all of them, to Fayette Co., PA. They tomahawked a home in the wilderness. George and Josiah purchased the property from their parents estate and settled on the farm later purchased by Robert Smith, Esquire in Franklin Twp. near Laurel Hill Church where the younger members of the family were born and where the remains of the parents and those of the children who died early lie buried.

Pennsylvania Archives Third Series, Vol XXII, Page 543, Fayette County State Tax 1785 has David Allen listed in Franklin Township with "Amount of Tax" 10.2.

David Allen first settled on land fronting four miles along the Yougheny River part of which the Overhold distillery was built. The distillery was still standing in 1957 (later known as Broadford, Pennsylvania); also site of the old iron furnace between Broadford and Dawson.

There is a record showing David as a Ranger on the Frontier, Westmoreland Co. Militia.

Pennsylvania Archives, Series 6, Vol IV: A return of twenty-seven officers of the militia of the county of Fayette made by Joseph Terrance Esquire, Brigade Inspector. Friday, November 15th, 1793. Third Regiment. Adjutant. David Allen.

DAR Record: ALLEN, DAVID #A001431 Service: Pennsylvania, Rank(s): Private, Birth: ca. 1732 Ireland, Death: 1821, Fayette Co. Pennsylvania Service Description: 1) Ranger on the Frontier 2) Westmoreland Co. Militia.

David and Susanna Allen both died and were buried in Franklin Township - year not known - information from Ena. B. Allen to Dale L. Allen was that they were buried at Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
