Donna L. Jevens, 71, of Sun City Grand, Surprise, Ariz., passed away June 4, 2010 after a short bout with cancer. Her family was by her side.
Donna was born June 7, 1938 in Aberdeen, S.D., and lived with her parents in LaCrosse, Wis., Miles City, Mont., Chicago, Ill., and Portage, Wis. Donna spent most of her life in Camarillo, Calif., before retiring to Surprise in 2004.
Donna is survived by her husband, Jim, in Surprise; son, Rob, in Chicago; and son, Tom, daughter-in-law Heather, and granddaughters Emily and Allison, in San Jose, Calif. Donna leaves several cousins and many friends for life.
She married her high school sweetheart, Jim, on Sept. 10, 1960 in Portage, Wis. Donna graduated from Portage High School in June 1956 and the University of Wisconsin in February 1961. She studied one more semester and received her K-3 teaching credentials in June 1961. Donna was a very proud member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at the University of Wisconsin. She was also a longtime member of P.E.O., Camarillo Chapter UM. Donna then taught kindergarten in LaCresent, Minn., while Jim completed his college at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Over the years, she substitute taught K-3 in several locations where the family lived.
Her favorite jobs were with then California State Assemblyman (now U.S. Congressman) Tom McClintock and U.S. Congressman Elton Gallegly, where as a Congressional Aide, she resolved many problems for constituents. Donna was highly thought of for her ability.
Per Donna's request, a memorial will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 27 in the chapel at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Camarillo with a reception immediately following. Interment will be in Aberdeen, S.D. at Sunset Memorial Gardens (date TBD).
In honor of Donna, spring colors would be the appropriate attire.
Donna was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She enjoyed her card groups in Sun City Grand and she and Jim traveled the world with much enjoyment. She will be terribly missed but never forgotten.
Many thanks to the staff at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale and Banner Del Webb Hospital, Sun City West, Ariz., for their caring support. Thanks as well to the staff at Hospice of Arizona who were gentle and caring to the end and to Terry Gillespie, her Imerman Angel mentor.
