Lamb in 1911 joined the architecture firm Carrere & Hasting. He earned a diploma from Paris, Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Lamb drew up the plans for The Empire State Building in two weeks. He was a partner in Shereve, Lamb and Harmon an architectural firm.
