1861-1865: Civil War Service, Union - He enlisted in the Service of the United States at Harrisburg in the State of Pennsylvania, on the 25th day of October, 1861, as a private in Company F, commanded by Capt. J. S. Nesbit, in the 55th Regiment of the Infantry Pennsylvania Volunteers, and re-enlisted as a veteran volunteer on January 1, 1864 and was honorably discharged on the 30th day of August of 1865. On 18 June 1864, at the battle of Petersburg, Virginia, he received a gunshot wound in his left arm, rendering the arm useless. 1920: Daniel George died on 25 January 1920 at his home, 832 Chapline, Wheeling, Ohio Co., West Virginia, in his wife's care. Burial was in Peninsula Cemetery, Wheeling, Ohio Co., West Virginia [His wife gave the information for his death certificate, but was obviously unaware of his birthdate, birthplace, or parents' names, as she reported that he was born in 06 January 1840 in Scotland and that his father's name was Daniel George. Though his death certificate lists his birthplace as Scotland and his father as Daniel George, I have many documents that disprove that information. The info on his death certificate was given by his wife Mary, to whom he had only been married for a few months and perhaps she did not know his birthplace or parentage.]
