Joy Marie Towns, 76, of Gonzales, died Thursday, November 24, 2005. She was born November 21, 1929 in Gonzales to the late David Bradfield and Lucy L. Holt Kelley, of Lavaca County and Devine, Texas, respectively. She was a independent bookkeeper and a member of the First Babtist Church. She had served as a Pink Lady at Memorial Hospital for many years. She was very active in her church and taught Sunday school at nursing homes for over 15 years. She married Melvin Davis (Sonny) Towns,Sr. on June 11, 1948 and he preceded her in death on July 7, 1996.
Survivors include her daughter, Beth Elaine Grier of Gonzales and her son, Melvin Davis (David) Towns, Jr. and wife Becky of Navasota; six grandchildren, Kyle Towns, Ryan Towns, Jeff Grier and Kasha Towns; five great-grandchildren, Keeton Towns, Kennon Towns, Makalee Grier, Reighann Grier and Lane Towns and one sister, Pat Kelley Logan of Gonzales.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters and seven brothers.
Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, Novemeber 26, 2005 at the Woodmen of The World Cemetery in Gonzales at 2 p.m. with Dr. Travis Burleson officiating.
Seydler-Hill Funeral home of Gonzales was in charge of arrangements.
