Son of George and Sarah Appleton, George was a blacksmith.
He attended St Peter's School and then worked at his father's forge, when the war broke out he became a "spotter" at St Pierremont Hall and he joined the R.A.F in 1941.
He married Denise Marie Fraser on 18th November 1843 at St Peter's Church, Thanet and he was killed in action just six weeks later. He had been in training for his pilot's licence and a contingent of R.A.F formed a guard of honour at his funeral.
