Ray was the fifth child and youngest son of Martin and Martha Konke Chmielinski. As adults, both Ray and his brother Ed changed their surname to Parker.

Ray served in the Army during World War II, enlisting in June 1942.

Ray was married to Julia (maiden name unknown). He had one daughter, Renee, and a step-son, "Dickie".

Ray was survived by his wife and children, his brother Ed, and his sisters Eleanor, Bernice, Rita, and Mercedes.
