Jim Carmichael loved bringing sports to Nebraska television viewers.

So it came as no surprise to those that knew him that he was working when he left this world. Carmichael, a senior producer/director at NET Television, died at his office late Wednesday night while preparing for an upcoming live broadcast of a UNO hockey game.

Cause of death appears to be natural causes, according to family members. He was 62.

"Being a sports fan of all sports, he often said he had the best job in the world," NET Television production manager Joe Turco said.

Carmichael produced NET's "Big Red Wrap-Up Show," starring Kevin Kugler and former Nebraska football and baseball player Adrian Fiala. He also produced NET coverage of high school football, wrestling and swimming and diving championships, and a variety of Nebraska and Creighton sporting events.

Carmichael was born in Seward and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He joined NET in 1985. In addition to sports, he produced the popular "Backyard Farmer" series.

"For almost 30 years, Jim's dedication has provided thousands of hours of high school and collegiate sports viewing pleasure to Nebraskans," Turco said. "Nebraskans have been fortunate to have had such a devoted individual committed to bringing quality sports programming into their homes."
