ISHPEMING Gordon Marshall Anderson, age 84 of 312 Washington St. in Ishpeming passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2006 in the company of his family at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had resided for the past 6 weeks.
Gordon was born September 30, 1922 in Ishpeming, the son of the late Sigurd and Myrtle (Burling) Anderson. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School. Gordon went on to attend flight school, becoming a pilot and Flight Officer, and served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. His experience included flying B-17s, B-29s and later B-52s. Upon his discharge from the service, Gordon held various jobs until settling back in Ishpeming, working at the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base as a civilian heavy equipment mechanic until his retirement in 1987.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years Karen Anderson of Ishpeming; a son Dana (Robin) Anderson of Hereford, AZ; 3 daughters Melissa (Dale) Olgren of Ishpeming, Karen (James) Tritten of Pleasanton, CA and his youngest daughter Mary Anderson of Ishpeming; 4 sisters Irene Willier of Iowa, Connie Johnson of Negaunee, Nancy Asikainen of Ishpeming, and Marion Bailey of Marquette; his special friend and nephew, John Maskarina of Iowa; along with 5 grandchildren Angela and Nathen Olgren of Ishpeming, Claire and Tristan Tritten of Pleasanton, CA and Tessa Anderson of Hereford, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters Shirley Rule, Hazel Williams, Dorothy Polyniak and Frances Heliste; a brother Clifford "Kiffy" Anderson, and his favorite dog, Buttons.
