Billy C. Beck, 90, of Tahlequah passed away February 5, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born in Stillwell, OK to Minnie Green and Rufus Sut Beck on August 27, 1923.
Billy married Marguerite Elizabeth Roberts on November 16, 1946. They met when he was playing in a band called Jerry Summerlin and the Cookson Hills Cowboys and was performing at a VFW dance at Camp Gruber which Marguerite attended. They had been married for over 60 years at the time of her death. They raised two children together, Billy Dean and Patricia Ann. They also helped raise two granddaughters whose parents were unable to care for them for a time. They also took in two boys, Dennis and Ricky Jones, who had been orphaned, and raised them to adulthood at which time they joined the military. Billy and Marguerite lived and worked in Phoenix, AZ and Dallas, TX before returning to Oklahoma. He worked for OG&E for a number of years then owned and operated the Western Auto, Muskogee Appliance, The Muskogee Hotel and Brass Rail Lounged for a number of years until their retirement. He was an accomplished handyman and there wasn't anything he couldn't repair. He was a very kind and charitable man and was known to give a room and meal at the hotel to many who came in needing a place to stay for the night and something to eat.
Billy took care of his grandchildren while their parents worked. He was a doting "Ga-ga" to them and taught all of them to read before they started school. He attended many a soccer and baseball game watching them play. Most afternoons he could be found in the kitchen fixing them a snack after school. He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He loved all animals and hand many pets throughout his life. Especially to him was his dog, Tiny, who preceded him in death by a few weeks. He was a member of the Cherokee tribe, a Manson for fifty years and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife Marguerite, daughter, Patricia, his parents, sisters Zelma and Kathryn, brother Rufus, and niece Ranie Jacobs.
