Mrs Florence Jeroloman Scott Abney, a widely known Charleston Civic leader and frequent contributor to the city's welfare, civic and youth organizations, in a Charleston Hospital. She had been ill a short time.

Mrs. Abney was the widow of Capt. Addison M. Scott, who brought his wife here when he came with the Army Engineer Corps on construction of Kanawha River Locks. Her second husband, William O. Abney, who died in 1949, was affilliated with Abney Raines Co. and was Vice-President of the Charleston National Bank. He was President of the Union Trust Co. from its organization in 1913 to its merger with Charleston National in 1929.

A native of New York City, Mrs. Abney was a graduate of Hunter College and held a Law Degree from New York University though she never practiced law.

Her interests were diversified, including membership on the Board of Directors of the Charleston Senators and being one of the founders of Hillcrest Sanitarium and the Kanawha County Public LIbrary. She was a member of the YWCA and helped furnish room in the organization's building. She also donated funds for erection of Will Abney Chapel in the Boy Scout's Buckskin Council campaign area in Pocahontas County. Other contributions were to the Girl Scouts, the Charleston Symphony, the Community Music Assn., Kanawha Players, Charleston Light Opera Guild, Charleston Memorial and General hospitals and Morris Harvey College.

Mrs. Abney was a member of Kanawha Literary Society, the Women's Club and University Women.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. John Goff of Riverside, Conn. and a niece, Mrs John McLeon of North Hollywood, Calif.

Services were held in the St. John's Episcopal Church, the Rev. William Pregnall officiating. Entombment in Spring Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
