Lorene Faye Abbott peacefully left this life in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 2, 2014, and was carried by angels to the arms of Jesus. Lorene was born on August 28, 1920, in Tom, Oklahoma, the first-born of Jewell and Homer Edwards. She was a resident of the Mineral Wells area for more than fifty years, and owned and operated Lorene's Fabrics in the city's downtown for many years. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, and formerly of Dobbs Valley Baptist Church. She was truly the matriarch of her family, keeping her widely-scattered kin in touch with each other, and ensuring that family ties were maintained. Preceding Lorene in death were her parents, and siblings Evelyn Wills, Lonnie Edwards, James Edwards, and Mary Peden. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Johnnie Abbott, son Don (Beverly) Perry of Oklahoma City, daughter Carolyn Lambert of Arlington, daughter Johnna (Gary) Roach of Azle, and son Jerry (Ruthmary) Abbott of Springfield, Missouri, and numerous grandchildren. Also surviving her are brothers Junior Edwards, Kenneth Edwards, sister Ann Medcalf, and special sisters-in-law Tommie Edwards and Flo Edwards. Services will be held at the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel 2 PM Thursday, February 6, 2014 with burial to follow at Dobbs Valley Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
