LOGAN: Gerald L. "Gus" Acker, 81, of Logan, Ohio passed away Monday February 3, 2014 at Fairfield Medical Cemter, Lancaster, Ohio.

Gerald was born October 27, 1932 in Murray City, Ohio to the late Samuel M. and Mae Acker.

He was a 1950 graduate of Logan High School, was a United States Navy Veteran serving in the Korean War; member of the American Legion, Logan; NRA, and PERS; retired from the State of Ohio at the Nelsonville Hocking County Correctional Facility; and prior to his retirement he worked as a maintaonce supervisor for 18 years in Wellston, Ohio at Ralston Purina which changed to Banquet and then to Jeno's.

Survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Acker of Logan, Ohio; daughter, Deena (Dennis) Circle of Oak Hill, Ohio; grandson, Jeremy Circle of Gallopolis, Ohio; sisters, Hope Spencer of Logan and Pauline Hamrick of Willoughby, Ohio; brothers-in-law, James (Christy Ann) Pickett of California, Charles (Susan) Pickett of South Carolina and David (Ann Marie) Pickett of Massachusetts; and nieces and nephews.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Acker; sister, Kathryn Butler; and sisters-in-law, Betty Pickett and Carol Frazier.

Burial and graveside services will be held 11;00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville, Ohio with Rev. Frank Frazior officiating.

Graveside Military Services will be held by the Hocking County Honor Guard.

Calling hours will be observed Thursday February 6, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home.
