He was born January 7, 1950 to Rev. Clarence E. Trammell and Mary Alice (King) Trammell. Melvin was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1969 to 1973. He was stationed in Korea and Germany, where he met his wife, Ingrid (Lauster) Trammell. The couple was united in marriage on January 26, 1972. Melvin was ordained on April 24, 1999 at the Clearview United Baptist Church. He pastored Clearview United Baptist, Grave Hill United Baptist, and in 2004 became the current Pastor for the Round Top United Baptist Church. Melvin had a large and loving heart. He was a foster parent to many children over 15 years and coached basketball at the Pine Knot Elementary and Middle Schools, and the Pine Knot Job Corps. He also served as a Board Member and was a bus driver for the McCreary County School System. Melvin had worked as a Coal Miner and an Auto Mechanic Instructor, owning Trammell's Garage in Pine Knot. Melvin had many hobbies he enjoyed such as golf and basketball, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents, a daughter, Rebecca Trammell, a brother, Steve Edward Trammell, and grandchildren, Luke Corder, Isaiah Corder, and Paige Trammell.
