Charles Frederick John Akehurst was born at Blackhurst Tunbridge Wells on January 10th 1895. He was at school at St. James's Tunbridge Wells and at Speldhurst and was employed as Butcher before joining the Army. He enlisted in the 16th Battn. Australian Imperial Force in September 1914 and went with his Battalion to Egypt where he was present at the Actions in defence of the Suez Canal. His Battalion formed part of the Dardanelles Expedition, and he was present at various engagements on the Gallipoli Peninsula, being killed in action on August 22nd. 1915. He was entitled to the 1914 & 1915 Stars. He was Son of Mr. & Mrs. C. Morgan Akehurst. The latter was daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jas. Prior of Lower Green.
