Columbiana – Patrick R. Mango, 89, of Columbiana, formerly of Leetonia, died at 8:10 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Salem Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Mango was born March 15, 1924 in Leetonia, a son of the late Nicholas and Concetta Bernard Mango and had lived in this area all of his life. He has served in the U. S. Navy during WWII.

He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the OSI Club, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion and the York Drexler Post #5532 VFW. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Yankees fan. In 2005, Pat was inducted into the Leetonia Football Hall of Fame. He had been employed as a chipper at the Eljer Company, Salem for 33 years, retiring in 1986.

He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy A. Ewing, whom he married April 22, 1950; two daughters, Ginny (Tom) Kiliany of Leetonia and Christine (Brad) Mango-Wilson of Hanoverton; a "special" daughter, Dot Confer of Salem; two sons, Patrick A. Mango of Salem and Nicholas W. (Doris) Mango of Leetonia; a sister, Beatrice (Paul) Kesslar of Springfield, VA; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jack L. Mango; five sisters, Victoria Prichard, Catherine Mango, Rose Mango, Florence Felger, and Concetta Szoak; and three brothers, Joseph, Nicholas, and Anthony Mango.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Memorial tributes may be made to either the Leetonia Football Program or MVI Hospice. Arrangements are being made by the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
