Mrs. Deborah Tate Lindley reached her 99th birthday last Sunday April 14th. A few friends dropped in to congratulate her on the event and promised to greet her next year on her completion of a century of happy, righteous life.

Mrs. Lindley is the last survivor of a family of 12 children, her last sister died in Illinois about a year ago aged 88 years. She is the mother of G. F. Lindley and came here about a year ago from Chicago to make her home with her son.

Mr. Lindley’s father died in 1862 and his mother later married her husband’s brother and he has been dead about 45 years. Since his death she has lived with her children. She is in good health, with fairly good hearing and good eye sight. She has measurably lost the use of her lower limbs and cannot walk, otherwise she is in fair possession of all her faculties and is enjoying life. All our readers will join in wishing Grandma Lindley a century anniversary of her birth next year.

Grandma Lindley Died At 99 Years

After the remarkably long and useful life of ninety nine years, Grandma Lindley at last fell a victim of death, passing away at the home of her son, G. F. Lindley, last Friday afternoon, June the sixth. The end came very calmly and beautifully, the old lady falling into a gentle sleep, from which she awakened in that Land for which she was so well prepared.

Until just a little while ago, Grandma Lindley enjoyed almost perfect health, her health and faculties beginning to fail her only within tbe last few years. The end of her beautiful life was not unexpected, however, for she had been growing feebler for some little time past.

The funeral was held at her son's home Sunday afternoon, at 4:30 o'clock, Rev. L. M. Pierce speaking the words of comfort and cheer to the relatives and friends.

We join in extending to those relatives and friends our sincerest sympathy in their loss; and we join also in the feeling of admiration and love for her beautiful character and life.

Deborah Tate Lindley was born in Dayton, Ohio, in 1814, and she was married in 1832, to John Lindley.

Father Lindley passed away in 1865, leaving her with eight children, four of whom are still living: Mrs. M. E. Scott, of Terre Haute, Ind.; Mr. J. F. Lindley of Grand Rapids, Mich.; J. W. Lindley of Chicago, and G. F. Lindley of Eagle Grove. Mrs. Lindley was the proud grandmother of eleven living grandchildren, and of twenty-two great-grandchildren.

She was ever a loyal and faithful church worker, being a member of the church since childhood. As early as 1840, she was distributing tracts and religious reading matter throughout Marshall County, Ill. Her interest and zeal in missionary and church society work were unbounded. At the time of her death, she was a member of Campbell Park Presbyterian church of Chicago.

Grandma Lindley had two favorite hymns, which were sung at her funeral. Those hymns were: "I would not live always," and "There'll be no more sorrow there."

Handsome floral offerings were contributed by the different societies and by neighbors and friends, and Mr. and Mrs. Lindley desire to express their appreciation of the same.
