Lawrence Douglas "Larry" Barfield Jr., 65, died Jan. 25, 2014 at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Hospital after a difficult recovery from heart surgery in 2012. He was born Jan. 19, 1949, in Albany, Ga., to Lawrence Douglas Barfield Sr. and Helen Louise Davis Barfield. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 until 1971 and was a gunner on a medical evacuation (MEDVAC) helicopter during the Vietnam Conflict.
After his discharge from the service, he returned to live in Albany then relocated to Inverness, Fla., in 1973 where he lived for nearly 30 years. He relocated to Tallahassee in 2002. He spent his life working in residential and commercial building and will be remembered as a daring and fun-loving man who enjoyed fishing and hunting, good food, drinks, and music, and extending his enormous love of life to his family.
He is survived by his former wife and current life partner of 30 years, Barbara Barfield; and their children, two sons, Travis Barfield, Boston, Mass., and Lawrence Fulton Barfield, Tallahassee; and one daughter, Brittany Barfield Finch (Gage), Ft. Drum, N.Y.; his oldest children, daughter, Lawanna Lammer, Inverness; and son, Jason Barfield of Oxford, FL; and their mother, Mary Linda Barfield (Dave Johnston), Inverness, FL; three grandchildren, Jesselyn Lammer, Brianna Barfield and Rufus Barfield; two sisters, Sharon Beaver (Rodger), Sasser, Ga., and Tammie Barfield (Tom Harrington), Crawfordvlle; two brothers, Randall "Randy" Barfield (Lilia), Bogota, Colombia, SA, and Mark Barfield, Conyers, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Lawrence Douglas "Doug" Barfield, III.
A gathering to celebrate Larry's life and times will be scheduled at a
later date.
