Randy J. Futa, 58, of Santa Barbara, California, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in Santa Barbara, California from a heart attack while riding his bicycle. Randy was born on January 23, 1953 in South Bend to Joseph and Evelyn (Orlowski) Futa. He moved to California in 1990. Randy was a Certified Acupuncturist and a self-employed artist. Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Futa of South Bend, IN; his sister, Nancy Futa of Mishawaka, IN; his two brothers, Lawrence Futa and his wife Rebecca, and Richard Futa both of South Bend, IN; seven nephews; and fourteen great nieces and great nephews. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, on August 12, 2005. A Catholic Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday July 30, 2012 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until Noon on Monday in the funeral home. Randy attended and graduated from St. Adalbert Grade School. He was a 1971 graduate of Washington High School and received his Teaching Degree from I.U.S.B. He was also a graduate of the Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine. Randy enjoyed origami, riding his bicycle, spending time on the beach, and swimming with dolphins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Humane Society.
