The death occurred on Wednesday last week of Mrs. Mary Anna Carey at her home, Bowling Green, Street, aged 75 years. Mrs. Carey was the widow of Mr. Joseph Carey, who passed away seven years ago, and who was a very popular figure in the political life of Street. He was a staunch supporter of the Labour Party and was very outspoken.
Mrs. Carey, who had been seriously ill for about three weeks, was buried at the Street Parish Churchyard on Saturday. The service was conducted by the Rector (the Rev. R. Daunton-Fear), with Mr. W. Collins at the organ. Hymns sung were "Jesu, Lover of My Soul" and "Thine Forever, God of Love." The coffin was borne to the grave side by six of the late Mr. Joseph Carey's old fellow workers, namely, Messrs. J. Culliford, H. Hooper, W. Ackerman, H. Difford, W. Vowles and F. Badman from the Avalon Leather Board Factory. Mourners included Mr. & Mrs. F. Lee, Mr. & Mrs. J. Hines, Mr. & Mrs. G. Carey, Mr. & Mrs. S. Martin (children), Miss M. Carey, Master G. Carey, Mrs. J. Hines, Mrs. P. Weeks (grandchildren), Mr. & Mrs. E. Trowbridge, Mr. & Mrs. W. Wright (sisters and brothers-in-law), Mr. & Mrs. G. Heal, Mr. L. Godfrey, Mr. C. Wright, Mr. & Mrs. E. Hobbs, Mr. H.
