From a clipping dated Oct 24, 1908 from "The Marietta Times", a weekly pub. on Sat., found in a scrapbook of #62215859. R. Pinkerton.

The son of Alexander & Mary Ann (Leopold) Grand[e], in 1860 he was a farm laborer living with his family in East Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Of his two marriages, one was to Elizabeth Conley in 1878.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Marietta August 8, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 12 as a private with Co. H, 135th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 24, 1863. At muster-out, the army docked his pay for lost knapsack, canteen, and haversack as well as an additional $2.99 for "difference in price of clothing," a financial hit that most of the men in the regiment endured. Both his compiled military service record and the company register spell his surname "Grandy," suggesting its pronunciation. They both also list him with a middle initial of "G."
Cause of death is listed as "acute gastritis" with "syphilis and general debility" contributing factors.
Bio contributed by Dennis Brandt, Civil War researcher.
