Dan R. Raybon, 77, of Pascagoula passed away January 15, 2014 after a prolonged illness. Visitation will be Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 1 – 3 pm at Holder Wells Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at 3 pm, and subsequent burial at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. Reverends Tracy Martin and Tom Miller will officiate. Dan was born July 26, 1936 to Eva and Houston Raybon of Butler County, AL. A graduate of Greenville High School, he served in the US Navy during the Korean War before employment at Ingalls Shipyards; he subsequently worked as a food inspector for the US Department of Agriculture until retirement.
He was a devoted husband to the late Dorothy Comans Raybon, his wife of 47 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents and by three brothers, Houston Jr, Leon, and Kenneth.
He is survived by son Kelvin Raybon and wife Tina of Laurinburg, NC, and by son Kerry Raybon and wife Lisa of Dallas, TX. Grandchildren include Mallorie Raybon of Oxford, MS, Jacob Raybon of Dallas, TX, and by Eli and Emma Raybon of Laurinburg, NC. Surviving siblings include Reese Raybon and wife Lydia Ann of Greenville, AL, Bobbie Jewell Sawyer and husband Vic of Frisco City, AL, Curtis Raybon and wife Gloria of Pascagoula, MS, Neal Raybon of Pascagoula, MS, and Dianne Miller and husband Tom of Lucedale, MS.
A devout Christian, Dan lived with the peace and assurance of Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was a longstanding member of Riverside Baptist Church, serving as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and custodian. He was generous to a fault, and a stranger to no one. He enjoyed his family, his friends, the lives of his sons and grandchildren, singing and playing guitar, and playing domino with his church friends.
