Love County native Clarice Battles, 80, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at her Ardmore residence. Daughter of the late Elbert F. and Ethel A. (Rogers) Gothard, Clarice was born December 19, 1933, at Orr, Oklahoma.
Of Baptist faith, Clarice graduated from Courtney High School, the class of 1951. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader; she dearly loved her grandchildren and the holidays held much joy for her.
Clarice and James B. Paxson married December 11, 1953, he passed away in 1971. She later married Bill Battles, October 24, 1972. Bill passed away in 1995. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and four brothers.
Clarice is survived by her daughter, Susan Henderson and her husband, Jerry, of Ardmore; her son, James Paxson and his wife, Karyl, of Oklahoma City; a sister, Lela Mae Tootle, Sallisaw, Oklahoma; her seven grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Kristin, Ryann, Schuyler, Andrea, Stacia, Ashton and Koby and; great granddaughter, Halle.
