Mr. Garvin was born August 11, 1947 in Charleston, SC, the son of the late Henry Fritz Garvin, Jr. and Kathryn Matson Garvin. He was a 1965 graduate of Bishop England High School and served in the US Air Force, a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 147, James Island, SC, VFW, and DAV. He was a regional faculty member of the American Heart Association, a member of the Charleston Rifle Club, and the Pineland Sportsman Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and, above all, cooking at the American Legion.
He was a loving father and grandfather and was loved dearly by his sister and brother. Surviving are his son , Michael J. Garvin; daughter, Kathryn Lee-Ann Garvin Smoak; one granddaughter, Kelly; and four grandsons, Bruce, Hallie, Josh, and Justin; one sister, Carolyn Garvin Berry; and one brother, Perry A. Garvin.
