Gordon R. Butz, age 73, of Portage, passed away on July 6, 2012. He was born on November, 15, 1938 in Gary, IN to the late Ray and Gladys Butz. Gordon retired as a Captain from the Lake County Sheriff Department, with over 31 years of service. He was a member of the Lake County Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed many outdoor activities and festivals including his favorite pastime of fishing. Gordon is survived by his loving family; one son, Joseph (Brandy) Butz; four daughters: Nanette Sarkey, Suzanne Tracy, Barbara Butz, and Rebecca (Allyn) Hane; devoted partner of 18 years, Penny Robinson and her two children; Darrin (Sam) Robinson, and Alysa Robinson; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Janet Graves; niece; nephew; several cousins. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum in Valparaiso. Family and friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Mausoleum.
