When she discovered in 1972, companies that made baby-nutrition products were distributing millions of copies of the poem to new parents, she copyrighted the work. She continued to let companies and public publishing's use her poem, never earning a dime from the work. Her 1998 book, "Children Learn What They Live," devotes a chapter to each line of the poem.
