Hanora Frances Mead was born on August 22, 1895, in Fairmount, a small village near Monroe, Iowa; the daughter of D. John and Katherine Clary Holland Mead. Her official first name was "Hanora," after her maternal grandmother, but she always went by "Nora."
Nora was a Registered Nurse, and the Night Supervisor at St. Thomas Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown for 23 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown.
Nora passed away on February 1, 1964, at Mercy Hospital. She was buried in her nurse's uniform. Her funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's.
