Harvey W. Achatz, 72, Route 4, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Yakima. He was born in Monte Vista, Colo., on March 24, 1914, a son of Fred and Margaret Achatz.

Mr. Achatz received his education in Colorado and moved to Washington in 1942. He and Valetta Hespen were married in Seattle on Dec. 23, 1948.

Mr. Achatz was employed by the Seattle transit system for 29 years and following retirement moved to Ellensburg in November 1974. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, the Menastash Grange and Silver Circle and he drove the Silver Circle bus for two years.

He is survived by his wife, Valetta, a sister, Margaret Johnson, and a niece, Debbie Robinson, all of Ellensburg. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, also at St. Andrews.

The Revs. John Marasclulo and Rollin Swanson will officiate and burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, in care of Mrs. H.E. Railsback, 202 S. Matthews Road, Ellensburg.
