Jean Arthur Burton, 80, of Austin, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester.
He was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Kansas City, Kan., to George and Cecelia (Petersen) Burton.
He graduated from Wyandotte High School and received his BS degree in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946.
On Aug. 12, 1944, he married Marjorie Moore Harvey in Clinton, Okla.
Jean was employed as the director of engineering at the Hormel Foods Corporation until his retirement.
He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church and the Austin Noon Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Burton, Austin; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ron Harder, Alread, Ark.; Janet and James Walch, Rochester; Jean and David Barck, Byron; Marcia and Sean McCoy, Maple Grove; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Dena Huitt, Prairie Village, Kan.; sister-in-law, Eunice Burton, Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. today, May 4, 2004, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Austin with the Rev. Scott Monson officiating.
Entombment: Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
Funeral Home: Clasen-Jordan Mortuary, Austin.
