He married Elma Hall on December 30, 1942, Manti, Sanpete, Utah.
He is survived by his wife; six children, Karen (Terry) Jensen, Connie (Grant) Palmer, Shirley (Fritjof) Langeland, Joyce (Jim) Fenton, Que (Jan) Christensen and Patti (Vaughn) Walsh; sister Karma J. Allred (Keith) MacKay; 29 grandchildren and 291/2 great-grandchildren.
He enlisted in the National Guard, completed Officers Candidate School, and served four years active duty as part of the 145th Field Artillery in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1946. He continued his military service in the Army Reserve and retired a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979.
