Avis B. Warren died Tuesday evening, April 25, 2006, at Riverton Memorial Hospital in Riverton, Wyo. She was 71.

Avis Blanch Chamberlain was born in Rifle on Dec. 3, 1934, the daughter of Bernard Archibald Chamberlain and Delora Olive (Morrow) Chamberlain.

On Sept. 24,1968, she married Benjamin G. Warren in Lander, Wyo.

Her family said she had a love and affinity for the Native American culture.

She was employed by Wal-Mart for nearly 20 years, working In customer service in Glenwood Springs and Riverton. One of the highlights of her career was when she met Sam Walton In Glenwood Springs.

She also ran a gift shop from her home featuring the work of local artists.

Her family said she loved to watch and feed birds, having several bird feeders. She enjoyed the Native American art, prose, and poetry that she sold In her gift shop and was a loyal Nebraska and Broncos football fan.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Chamberlain, a grandson, Gabriel Thomas Warren, and a great aunt, Della Martin, and stepfather Harry Jim Coombs.

Survivors include her mother, Delora Olive Chamberlain Coombs of Rifle; husband Benjamin Warren; a son, Gerald V. Warren of Riverton; daughters Helen W. Smart of Riverton, and Jeffrene C. Fowler of Rifle; grandchildren Shawn Patrick Fowler, Dustin George Fowler, Vanna Delora Freeman, all of Rifle, and David Orien Goodwin of Silt; great-granddaughter Farrah Rude of Rifle; brothers Ed (Verna) Chamberlain, Harold (Vita) Coombs, Roy (Rhonda) Coombs, and Dale (Gail) Coombs ? all of Rifle; a sister, Ila (Wesley) Sturgeon of Meeker; great aunts Ina Storey of Vernal, Utah, and Una Raley of Rio Blanco; extended family in Colorado and Wyoming; and all of her Wal-Mart family.

Funeral services were April 29, at St. Stephen?s Catholic Church, in Riverton. The Rev. Father Dan Gannon officiated, and interment followed at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery in Riverton.

Services were under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.

A Rifle memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 3 at the Rifle Senior Center at 50 Ute Ave.
