WWI Regimental #883129
Enlisted May 8, 1916 at Innisfail, Alberta in the 187th Battalion and served in France.
Discharged, with the Rank of Private, March 17, 1919, being medically unfit.
Birth: April 20, 1885 at Islay, Argyllshire, Scotland.
Trade: Farmer
Next-if-kin: Nelly Gordon Morison, mother, at Innisfail.

George was thirteen years of age when he emigrated to Canada from Scotland with his parents William and Helen Morison. The Morison family left Port Ellen and travelled by boat and then by train across Canada until they arrived in Innisfail in 1898. George had not finished his education in Scotland, and as there was no school close enough in the Innisfail area, William taught him at home. George joined the army in 1915 and served overseas. Not long after, he was badly injured. When the army ambulance was sent out to pick up the injured, George was missed. The vehicle and its occupants were demolished enroute to the First Aid Station. Meanwhile, in the trenches, George amputated his own limb. He was the sole survivor of his platoon. After spending a year in hospital in Wales, later in Liverpool, England, he underwent a series of operations and was fitted with an artifical leg. George returned to farm in Alberta, where his mother was still living, only to find he couldn't manage the farm work under such conditions. The farm was sold and he and Helen returned to Liverpool where Elizabeth Pogue was waiting for them. She had nursed George at the hospital until he returned to Canada. George and Elizabeth were married and then they returned to Innisfail. George went to work in a vulcanizing shop and Lizzie opened up a nursing home in her own home. Her main purpose was to accommodate maternity patients. Everyone who met and knew Lizzie, became fond of this kind and generous woman. Later they moved to Edmonton where George operated the elevator in the Legislative Building for many years. Lizzie passed away in 1935. They had no children. George remained in Edmonton, and in about 1944 he married Pearl Grant, who had also been raised in the Innisfail area.
