Charles Edwin Bradshaw Jr. died December 21st after a battle with cancer. He was 83.
Charles Edwin "Buddy" Bradshaw was born July 10, 1930 in Atlanta, GA, the son of Lillian "Sally" Duncan and Charles E. Bradshaw, Sr. He attended the University of the South and the University of Florida.
His family relocated to Florida and his father began planting citrus trees in 1942 creating the family business, Hi-Acres Services, Inc. Bradshaw became president and CEO following the passing of his father. Prior to the 1983 freeze, Hi-Acres Inc. was considered one of the largest production and harvesting companies in the state.
Other business ventures includes the formation of The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Company following the purchase of the Silverton Branch from the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad in 1981. Under his ownership the railroad was improved and expanded with ridership increasing to 100,000 passengers per year. In 2000, it was voted by National Geographic magazine as the best train ride in the United States.
Bradshaw was the co-founder of Lake Highland Preparatory School. He was a member of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee from its beginning in 1970 until his death, serving as the Chairman of the Board for 24 years. The main campus was named for him by the Board of Trustees in 2011.
Bradshaw was preceded in death by his oldest son Charles Edwin "Buster" Bradshaw III, in 2003, and his loving wife Marie, in 2009. He is survived by his daughter Mollye Sue Inners (Edward) of York, PA; son Landon Folsom Bradshaw (Leslie) of Leesburg; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Carey Hand Cox Parker Funeral Home at 1350 W. Fairbanks Ave. Winter Park, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Winter Park. Burial will take place at Palm Cemetery following the service. A reception will be held at First Baptist Church following interment at Palm Cemetery.
