Richard W. Cap Schmeltzle, 89, of Vera Cruz, died on Monday, June 11, 2012 in St. Lukes Hospital, Allentown Campus. His wife of 65 years, Emma F. (Folk) Schmeltzle, died on October 16, 2011. Born in Macungie, he was the son of the late Willoughby and Annie (Eitel) Schmeltzle. He was a member of Chestnut Hill United Church of Christ, Coopersburg. He was an Army Veteran serving during World War II, having been a recipient of the Purple Heart and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Richard was employed at Air Products for 30 years in the maintenance department, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Vera Cruz and Emmaus Senior Citizens, the Vera Cruz Community Association and the American Legion Post 184 in Palm, PA. Richard formerly held the position of caretaker at Jasper Park for 22 years and Rinker Enterprises for 10 years. Survivors: Son, Terry R. Schmeltzle and his wife Elizabeth; daughter, Karen Kemp and her husband Ronald, all of Emmaus; grandchildren, Steven Schmeltzle, Jessica Bortz and Andrew Kemp; and six great-grandchildren. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm Street, Emmaus. Calling hours 9 to 10:30 a.m., Friday in the funeral home. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Coopersburg. Contributions: May be made to Chestnut Hill U.C.C. Church, 6870 Chestnut Hill Church Rd., Coopersburg, PA 18036.
