Graduate of Waller High School in the Class of 2002. Amy Melnick was attending Texas State University (formerly known as Southwest Texas State) in San Marcos, Texas.

According to authorities, Melnick and Zachary David Hoy were killed when their 1998 Tahoe traveling at a high rate of speed clipped a second car on Aquarena Springs Drive, crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

Dead at the scene were the driver, Zachary David Hoy of Spring, Texas(DOB 12-28-1984), and passenger Amy Elysee Melnick, age 22 of Waller, Texas(DOB 08-03-1983).

Police said Hoy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle on impact. Melnick, a Texas State University student, was later found strapped in the passenger seat of the burned out vehicle.

San Marcos Police Sgt. Daniel Misiaszek said that around 12:28 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Fernando Gonzalez saw Hoy's vehicle traveling east at a high rate of speed on Aquarena Springs Drive toward I-35.

Moments later Gonzalez saw flames in the 1700 block of Aqarena Springs Drive and reported the fire to the San Marcos police.

Crash investigators said that the Tahoe was traveling between 75-80 miles per hour when it clipped the back rear left of a Honda Civic driven by Allison Williams, 21, of Burleson, Texas, at the intersection of Aquarena Springs Drive and the east access road of I-35. The contact between the two vehicles was minor and Williams was not injured.

The Tahoe continued eastbound through the intersection, traveled over the center median divider, crossed the westbound lane and struck a tree head on, Misiaszek said. The vehicle engulfed in flames on impact.

San Marcos Justice of the Peace Margie Hernandez pronounced Hoy and Melnick dead and has ordered autopsies.

Police said Hoy had moved to San Marcos two weeks ago, while Melnick was enrolled at Texas State University and lived in an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Aquarena Springs Drive.

Amy was a graduate of Waller High School in the Class of 2002. She attended Tomball College before transferring to Southwest Texas State University, where she majored in Fashion Merchandising.
