Provider, Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, American, US Marine, Veteran, he was all of these things. To his family he was everything.
He took pride in his country. As a Sgt. He served proudly from 1947 to 1951, where he fought in Korea. He saw combat at the Pusan Perimeter, Wonsan and the Chosen Reservoir. He earned a Purple Heart but stupidly refused it because it thought he wasn't hurt enough. We are trying to get it re-instated but the government is dragging its feet.
Married twice, found love the second time, had 4 children: Sean Michael, Joel Eric, Kelly Matthew and Kathy Marie. He saw that they needed nothing and were educated. Raised them to be self-sufficient and hard working. There were 9 beautiful grandchildren, all learning from him in their own way.
At 70 years of age, his health started to decline. His diagnosis was always his heart and his circulation. It seems that the time in Korea was catching up to him. He never wanted to be a burden on anyone.
On 24th Dec 2013, he passed away in the Fresno CA VA Hospital. He thought we had planned for his passing but that is never the case. There is never a good time to die, nor are you ever prepared.
His wishes were to be buried quietly at his home in Pilot, Franklin County NC. That wish was meet 26 June 2014. There was no service and no military service performed. He died as he lived quiet but proudly.
Instead of flowers, the request for donations to the Marine Corps Engineer Association, 807 Carriage Hills Blvd. Conroe, TX 77384.
I will always love you.
