She united with the Methodist Episcopal Church thirty years ago, during which time she lived a consecrated Christian life, and when death came it was only a good-by to her aged companion, children and earthly friends and a happy awakening into a life of a new and a more perfect day, with the Saints who have gone on before.
Her long, continued sickness did not destroy the charm of a kind indulgent disposition, nor old age diminish her unselfish solicitude of her friends and loved ones. "God touched her with His finger, and she slept," the poet wrote. So may we say of this life--"God touched her with His finger, and she slept," but not until a beautiful life was lived, a noble example of patience, fidelity to truth and faith were given. Not until visions of a heavenly life in Christ Jesus had cheered and illuminated the valley of the shadow, and not that she sleeps, memory tunes up the harp of life, and smiting the strings, finds that its virtues melt into music. So it ever is, when a life is nobly and divinely lived.
Rev. A.O. Laney conducted the funeral services at the M.E. Church Tuesday morning in an impressive manner, in the presence of a large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends after which the remains were taken to the family burying ground near Madden church where it was peacefully laid to rest. Brief services were also conducted at the grave by Rev. Laney.
