Wiley D Pearson, 83, of Leesburg, Rt. 2, (Sand Rock Community) died Friday at Cherokee County Nursing Home after a long illness.

Mr Pearson was a prominent farmer of Cherokee County before his retirement.

Funeral Services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Sand Rock United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Paul Johnson and Elvin Elliot presiding. Burial will be in Sand Rock Cemetery, with Perry Funeral Home in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Ophelia Pearson; three sons, Nathan and Forrest Pearson, both of Cedar Bluff; and David Pearson, of Jacksonville; a brother, Ira Pearson of Centre; a sister, Mrs Evie Conner of Gadsden; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr Pearson was a member of the Sand Rock United Methodist Church and served on the administrative board. A World War I veteran, he was a member of the American Legion. He was president of the Anniston Production Credit Association for 25 years.

He was a charter member of the Cherokee County Hospital Board.

The body will remain at the funeral home until one hour prior to services.
