(J.W. was his actual name)

J.W. was my uncle. He was married to my mother's sister for almost 60 years before his death. J.W. was the sweetest, most loving, caring and affectionate person I have ever known. Words could never express the love and gratitude I feel for him. He was a blessing to all who knew him. I have always thought of J.W. when I heard the phrase, "To Know Him Is To Love Him." I don't think he ever had an enemy. He was close to perfect. He was truly the "Best uncle in the world." He always treated me as if I were his daughter. I am extremely grateful to have had J.W. in my life.

J.W. was a nature lover. He would often stand outside and comment on the surroundings and the beauty and wonder of nature. J.W. would lay on the ground very still with pecans in his hands to get the squirrels to come to him. He earned their trust. As seen in the picture on the left they would get on his knee and eat pecans out of the bucket. Once when I was at his house he left the door open so that the squirrels could come in. He had laid pecans in the kitchen floor and a squirrel came in and got one and then went back out of the door. J.W. loved gardening. He had a big garden every year and it would be challenging to find a weed in it. Whether it was tomatoes, beans, squash, etc. they were always plentiful on the vines. His yard was always well manicured. He enjoyed the outdoors.

J.W.'s parents divorced when he was very young. He and his siblings were raised by grandparents and great grandparents. J.W. was raised by his great-grandmother, Maggie Gray Houk Coffey, and his step-great grandfather, Jessie Elias Coffey. J.W. often praised Jessie and thought he was one of the greatest men he had ever known.
