MACON — Oscar Nichols Boykin Jr., 83, died Dec. 10, 2013, at his residence. Services are Friday at 11 a.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Boykin was born May 15, 1930, to the late Oscar N. Boykin Sr. and Mamie Smith Boykin. He was a graduate of Brooksville High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed with 4-County Electric Power Association and was a member of Ruhama Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nona Bell Joyner Boykin; and sisters, Bessie Boykin, Linda Conner, Sarah Alma Boykin and Mary Kate Boykin. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Heard of Brooksville; sons, Larry N. Boykin of Brooksville and Jeffrey L. Boykin of Sturgis; sisters, Lurleen Wilson of Albertville, Ala., Anna Belle Mitchener of Macon, Ethel Coleman of Crawford and Martha Fleming of Columbus; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
