John Metcalf, 75, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5005 West I-40, with Pastor Brian Hesse and Associate Pastor David Schatte officiating.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East.

John was born January 25, 1938 in Salamonia, Indiana to Kenneth Kemp and Darlene Barber. He was raised in Salamonia, Indiana and Tiffin, Ohio. He was drafted into the Army by way of the Indiana National Guard in 1955 and joined the Air Force in 1957.

John was stationed at the Air Force base in Amarillo where he met and married the former Linda Sawyer in 1965 after a freak accident at the roller rink where a dislocated knee brought the couple together.

In 1977 John retired from the Air Force as a Tech Sgt. He has been employed by Pantex as a metrology tech for the past 35 years. John loved to build and fly airplanes. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed scuba diving and prospecting. At home, he would watch T.V. and play video games. John collected and repaired antique guns of all kinds and just lived a great life. He and Linda loved their church and were founding members of the handbell choir. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

John is survived by his wife, Linda Metcalf; sons, David and James of Amarillo; daughter, Annette; sisters, Connie Fredricks and Carolyn Flemings of Jackson Michigan; a half sister, Maureen Neargardner; a sister-in-law, Aletha Sawyer of Amarillo; 3 grandchildren, Kayla Huff, Amber Marrs, and Cody Oneal; and 4 great-grandchildren, Zaeli and Emmaline Huff and Sean and Riley Marrs; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Music Ministry, 5005 West I-40, 79106
