Lena Iona was born on May 2, 1914, in Henry County the daughter of Emerson & Anna Belle McDowell Brown. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in the class of 1932, and was united in marriage to Kenneth C. Burkey on February 20, 1935; he preceded her in death on October 18, 1996. She was a music teacher for many years in the area and at Music House in Burlington. Lena lived in the Salem and Mt. Pleasant area most of her life expect for a short time she lived in Idaho. She was a member of the Salem Congregational Church in Salem and a former member of the Salem Eastern Star.
She is survived by her children: Elaine Bunge of Lowden, Ralph Burkey of Star, Idaho, Darrell Burkey of Franklinville, N.J. and Gary Burkey of Lockridge; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; two nieces; Arlene Beavers and Dorothy Boyd both of Mt. Pleasant.
Lena is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers: Chester Brown and Leonard Brown and one sister Neva Chrisinger.
