FIRST SPECIAL SERVICE FORCE

1st Company - 3rd Regiment


Enlisted for service in March 1943.


Frank Brown was wounded in Italy in November 1943 and spent four months in a military hospital.


Frank Brown was killed in action in southern France while serving with the First Special Service Force.


Buried in France, Private Brown's remains were repatriated back to the United States and he was re-interred on 24 April 1948 in the family's plot.


In July 2013, the Congressional Gold Medal was awarded, collectively, to the First Special Service Force, in recognition of its superior service during World War II.


On February 3, 2015 surviving FSSF Veterans were in Washington DC to accept this momentous recognition on behalf of their fellow Forcemen who could not be there.
